Panerai’s ‘history And Legend’ Exhibition Unveiled At Singapore’s Ion Orchard Shopping Mall

Singapore, August 27, 2015-Italian luxury watch maker Panerai unveiled the ‘History and Legend’ exhibition yesterday. The exhibition is located in the ION Orchard shopping mall where Panerai’s Singapore store is located. The exhibition runs until September 6, 2015, providing a valuable opportunity for watch enthusiasts to discover the rich historical tradition of the brand and appreciate a series of representative Panerai differences. Masterpiece of the period.

Visitors can travel through time and space to witness the ins and outs of the classic design of Panerai watches in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, and appreciate the ‘slow torpedo’-Siluro a Lenta Corsa (SLC) (length 7.5) Meters, diameter 0.53 meters) model. The first SLC was designed in 1938 by two Italian Navy Genio Navale (Navy Engineer) captains Teseo Tesei and Elio Toschi to cooperate with the brave commandos on dangerous underwater missions. At that time, the Italian Navy commandos were wearing heavy ‘Belloni’ wetsuits with rubber masks, built-in oxygen breathing devices and emergency artificial respirators containing soda lime; the latter could absorb carbon dioxide and prevent easy exposure of bubbles due to rising air bubbles during exhalation . Commandos put on wetsuits and were equipped with Panerai watches, as well as instruments specially made for them such as compasses and depth gauges, to perform tasks in the deep sea.

This exhibition also provides a unique opportunity for guests to personally appreciate the many masterpieces of watches developed by the brand in the Neuchâtel watch factory, and experience Panerai’s outstanding combination of pure Italian design and Swiss watchmaking technology. The names of the cases developed by Panerai watches since 1936 have been divided into categories, including the first Radiomir watch born in 1936, as well as a series of Radiomir 1940, Luminor 1950 and Luminor watches. Visitors can explore the Panerai watch series through the exhibits and learn about the superb functions, including long power reserve function, advanced watch complication function, chronograph function and GMT time display.

In 1956, Panerai developed the extraordinary Radiomir Egiziano watch, which is unique in its sturdy size and unique rotating bezel that can calculate the diving time. This watch provides creative inspiration for the Submersibles collection on display, including the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 days Automatic Bronzo-47 mm PAM00382 and Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Ceramica-47 Treasures such as the millimeter 3-day power reserve automatic professional diving ceramic watch (PAM00508) are especially exhibited in the special zone for the Submersibles series.

Two precious antique watches with ‘Marina Militare’ engraved on the dial were also featured in the exhibition. Two watches perfectly illustrate the process of Radiomir’s transformation into Luminor. The latter’s crown bridge protection device, instead of the welded wire lugs, has become a reinforced lug that is integrally cast with the case, forming a unique new look. In addition to watches, Panerai also produces and supplies other precision instruments for commandos and slow torpedoes. These torpedo or commando equipment, including compasses, flashlights and depth gauges (all equipped with ‘Radiomir’ dials), were partly exhibited in the exhibition.
